A Regional Atlas Topic wise the emphasis lies on Västra Götaland of today. Population, employment, the infrastructure, commuting and the like are described in detail, including comparisons between the various municipalities. Industrial life is dealt with industry by industry. Göteborg, Sjuhärad, Falbygden, Slätten, Dalsland and Bohuslän each have their own chapter. We depict important historical events like the building of medieval churches, the greatpower era of the 17 th century and the revolutionary land reforms of the 18 th and 19 th centuries. One chapter is devoted to the 20 th century when social and economic conditions changed dramatically - from a peasant farmer society to an industrial and knowledge society, from a local community to a large city. The major environmental issues are also presented. This is the first book about Västra Götaland to describe in collected form the county s geography. More than 50 authors have contributed with their expert knowledge.
